WHY ORGANIC?
Everyone wants a healthy lawn, but some people prefer an alternative to chemical treatments. We provide comprehensive lawncare programs using all-natural products. Organic fertilizers promote lush, healthy lawns which are safe for families, pets and wildlife. These days many people are aware of the toxicity of chemicals, whether they are in our food or on our lawns. Eliminating chemicals does not mean that we have to settle for second-rate lawns, only that we look at them in a new light.
Organic lawncare focuses on creating active soil life, which in turn produces healthy grass. If you think of your grass as a plant, then you can understand why it needs good soil, sunlight, food and water to thrive. Organic lawn care allows your soil to retain its’ microorganisms, worms and other beneficial life forms, which increase disease resistance. Living soil is your best protection against lawncare problems. Our 100% all-natural fertilizers will feed your soil, create active soil life and help your grass out-compete weeds!
Traditional chemical lawn care focuses on high nitrogen fertilizers and pesticides, including insecticides and herbicides. The average American lawn is treated with over 20 lbs. of chemicals every year. Many of these chemicals have been linked in studies to long-term health problems in humans and other animals. We need to begin to take measures to preserve our health and the environment, and organic lawn care can be our first step.
ORGANIC FERTILIZATION
Our organic fertilizer (4-3-2) is composted poultry manure, a great source of natural nitrogen and calcium (9%). Since our fertilizer is from a natural animal source, and breaks down slowly to provide steady plant growth. Synthetic fertilizers release their nutrients too quickly, creating excessive grass growth without giving time for strong root growth. Chemical fertilizer run-off can also contaminate water sources.
WEED MANAGEMENT
Our Premium Program uses DDG (dried distillers grains), a soil amendment, for weed suppression. DDG works biologically by providing microbes and fungi with large quantities of food material, which allows them to go through a powerful population explosion in the soil. These microbes and fungi then feed on the tender roots of any new sprouting weed (or grass) seeds and either consume them or severely stunt their growth. DDG has no affect on established grass, and will only effect new seed growth. Research has shown DDG weed suppression to be on par with CGM (corn gluten meal) in effectiveness, and it also supplies a good source of fertilization (N-P-K). If you are planning to re-seed areas of your lawn, you will need to skip your DDG application since it will suppress any new grass seed growth. DDG is not an herbicide.
